About Art Report
Exhibitions are experiences before they are arguments, and both deserve reporting. Art Report reviews shows in galleries and museums, profiles the artists in them, and publishes guides for people planning an afternoon rather than a dissertation. Coverage spans permanent collections and one-week project rooms, historical loan surveys and commercial displays, with equal attention to the work on the wall and the conditions in which a visitor meets it.
What we publish is grounded in going. A review here records the hang, the sequence, the sightlines, the wall text and the lighting, because a strong picture badly installed is a different experience from a strong picture given room. Provenance and loan credits get read. Editions and dates get checked. We do not review from installation photographs, we do not accept a press preview as the whole show, and we say plainly when a ticket price is not repaid by the contents.
Galleries follows dealers, programs and the commercial circuit; Museums covers collections, curatorial appointments, conservation projects and deaccessioning. Artists carries the profiles that put a body of work in order, while Reviews is the verdict file, show by show. Guides handles timing, tickets, routes and which rooms to enter first. Art News keeps the daily institutional record, and Business News reports admissions revenue, sponsorship, auction results and the budgets behind exhibition programs.
